HELLO, BEAUTIES !!
We often tend to struggle that whether we should choose between oil and serum. There are a number of oils and serums available in the beauty and skincare market these days. We have oils and serums for various skin concerns like hyper-pigmentation, anti-ageing, brightening etc. Now the real question is in which I should invest my money in. I hereby try to answer some of your questions.
SERUMS AND OILS ARE SAME?
NO! Serums and Oils are different. SERUMS (Water-based formula) are skin treatments that penetrate deep into the skin. Whereas OILS provide nutrition and hydration to skin.
WHAT DO SERUMS AND OILS CONTAIN? (INGREDIENTS)
SERUMS are the blend of water+peptides+antioxidant+vitamins+glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acid (depending on the type or concern). Whereas OILS contain plant extracts or essential oils.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
The ingredients in SERUMS are molecularly small in size, increasing their ability to reach the furthest layers of the skin. Whereas OIL molecules are much larger and serve to penetrate only the outermost layers of skin.
WHAT SHOULD BE APPLIED FIRST? OIL OR SERUM?
Due to the above-mentioned working of both always apply the serum before oil. In case you are not using both then oil should always be the last layer of your skincare regime. Always apply moisturizer and other skin care before you apply your oil.
WHY OIL OR SERUM? IS IT IMPORTANT?
It is good if you invest in them. SERUMS helps to repair or protect your skin from various concerns like ageing, hyper-pigmentation, acne etc. OILS mostly serve to boost hydration and suitable as moisturizers.
HOW DO THEY LOOK LIKE?
SERUMS can have various consistencies like thin and watery or gel-like. Where OILS have thin and runny consistency.
MY TAKE ON THIS/FINAL VERDICT
You should invest according to your need. Like, buy a serum or oil which your skin needs and nobody knows your skin better than you. If you have dry skin look for a oil or serum which is meant to provide hydration. Oily skin beauties need not worry about using oils on there face because there are oils in the market which is meant for all skin types.
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
